Q. Do I need to see a hygienist?
The large majority of our patients see one of the hygienists for routine scaling, polishing and preventive advice in order to keep the gums and teeth as healthy as possible.
The hygienists are all specially trained in treating problems with gum disease where ‘pocketing’ and bone loss around teeth has occurred, which if untreated is the principle reason individuals can lose teeth.
Your dentist will advise you on the state of your gums and recommend a programme of treatment with a hygienist where needed and also about the frequency of visits thereafter for long – term maintenance.
We usually find that patients who follow such a programme require much less interventive treatment and keep their teeth healthier and longer.
